(1) me
My intention for this website is first and foremost archival, a portfolio—if you will.
It is an intentional place for me to share and store my international work and research as a Global Mental Health researcher, scholar, suicidologist, and science communicator.
Indeed, I created this website to document my journey as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow in 2019. The name of the website: eatingyellowpaint or EYP is the title I had chosen as a young 22 year-old. I keep the name to honor this past version of me, although it does not resonate too much today.
All that said,
Welcome! Bienvenido! Bem vindo!
Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s in Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Equity from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. My public health education is fully-funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS). This Fellowship affords me the opportunity to grow and learn in Brazilian Portuguese. Additionally, I am also a 2023 cohort member of the Sanger Leadership Center's selective Ross Leadership Academy (RLA).
This year (2024), I will apply to PhD programs in Medical Anthropology to continue my international, trilingual work of documenting and crafting solutions to some of the world’s trickiest and stickiest mental health programs with my colleagues, friends, and kin in the Southern Cone of Latin America.
As you browse EYP, you’ll find an algorithmic-attic-archive of my travel as a Watson Fellow and Fulbrighter.
Below, you will find some links that will take you away from EYP.
These links will connect you to my 2023 CV, my Watson Foundation bio, my 2020 work with the United Nations Handover Dialogues between the Special Rapporteurs’ on the Right to Physical and Mental Health, and, my ongoing science writing with Mad in America.
